Your full wage

Your basic + DA is within the ₹25,000 ceiling, so both 12% shares are on all of it.

Pension
₹2,083 a month

8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000 goes to the Employees’ Pension Scheme. It is not part of your PF balance: it counts towards a monthly pension.

₹3,250 a month

Your employer’s 12% (₹3,000) plus EDLI and admin charges (₹250). Only the EPF share reaches your PF account.

How this is calculated

Each month

  1. You pay 12% of your PF wages: basic + DA, plus any pay above 50% of all pay (the Labour Code’s wages, s.2(88)), up to ₹25,000, or the full wage if you and your employer jointly opt for it (EPF Scheme paras 18(3) and 9(4)).
  2. Your employer pays 12% too. For a member of the pension scheme, 8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000 goes to the pension fund (₹2,083 at most), and the rest to your PF (EPS Scheme para 4(1), and the para 4(2) limit above the ceiling).
  3. Each amount is rounded to the nearest rupee, 50 paise up (EPF Scheme para 18(5), EPS Scheme para 4(3)): 8.33% of ₹25,000 is ₹2,083, and the employer’s PF share ₹917.
  4. 8.33% or 8⅓%? The page uses 8.33%, as the EPS Scheme and EPFO’s FAQ do. The notification S.O. 3580(E) says 8⅓%, which can come to ₹1 more (₹1,667 instead of ₹1,666 at ₹20,000).

Each year

  • Interest is added on 31 March, on the monthly running balance (EPF Scheme para 42). It is not compounded every month.
  • The balance at the start of the year earns 12 months; each month’s PF earns from the month after it is credited.
  • Employers pay PF in within fifteen days of the month’s end (para 28(3)), so we count the April wage month from June.
  • The year’s interest is rounded to the rupee.

From the EPF Scheme, 2026 and the EPS Scheme, 2026 (Gazette of India, 29 June 2026), the ₹25,000 wage ceiling (S.O. 5109(E), from 17 September 2026) and EPFO’s FAQ on it. Rules checked 29 September 2026.

Assumptions

  • Your employer pays 12%. Establishments in the jute, beedi and brick industries, coir (other than spinning), guar gum factories and those under an approved insolvency plan are left out of the 12% by S.O. 3582(E) and pay the Code’s lower base rate (s.16(1)(a)).
  • The wage you enter is already the Code’s wages: if your pay other than basic and DA is more than 50% of all pay, the excess counts too. The in-hand salary calculator works that out from a CTC.
  • The same pay all year, rising each April by the pay rise you enter. The ₹25,000 ceiling and today’s rates stay as they are.
  • Your balance now counts as this year’s opening balance and earns the whole year’s interest (para 42(1)(a)(i)). PF credited since 1 April really earns a little less, so this year’s interest can come out slightly high. Each month’s PF is credited the month after its wage month.
  • Interest at the rate you enter, every year. 8.25% was declared for 2025-26; later rates are not declared yet.
  • No withdrawals and no voluntary PF above the 12%. Members on the higher-pension option (EPS para 4(2), second proviso) are not covered.
  • The pension share is counted for every year shown. It stops when EPS membership ends at superannuation (EPS para 7), and your employer’s whole 12% then goes to your PF, so a projection past that age comes out low.

September 2026: two ceilings in one month

The ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 on 17 September 2026. For September, EPFO splits the month by days: 1–16 September under the old ceiling and 17–30 September under the new one, in one return for the month (FAQ Q7–Q9). Its own example, for a member of the pension scheme earning ₹20,000:

PF wages, 1–16 September₹15,000 × 16/30₹8,000.00
PF wages, 17–30 September₹20,000 × 14/30₹9,333.33
Your share12% of ₹17,333.33₹2,080.00
Pension (EPS)8.33% of ₹17,333.33₹1,443.87
Employer’s share to PF3.67% of ₹17,333.33₹636.13

EPFO keeps paise in this example. The EPF Scheme rounds each contribution to the nearest rupee (para 18(5)), so a payslip may show ₹1,444 and ₹636. From October 2026 the whole month is under the ₹25,000 ceiling. Source: EPFO’s FAQ, Q7 (scenario C).

Am I in the pension scheme (EPS)?

You are if you were a member of the 1995 pension scheme, or if your basic + DA was within the wage ceiling when you joined EPF (EPS Scheme para 7). Your passbook then shows a pension (EPS) contribution each month. You stay a member if your pay later rises above the ceiling (para 7(2)); membership ends at superannuation, when you take the withdrawal benefit, or when your pension starts. If your wages were above the ceiling when you joined, you are outside the EPS and your employer’s whole 12% goes to your PF. EPFO’s FAQ also says EPF members outside the EPS with wages of ₹15,000–₹25,000 are to be made EPS members from 17 September 2026.

How is PF interest worked out?

Once a year, on 31 March (EPF Scheme para 42). The balance at the start of the year earns the full year’s rate. Money credited during the year earns for the months left after the month it was credited: PF credited in May earns ten-twelfths of the rate, June to March. The year’s total is rounded to the rupee and added to your balance, and only then earns interest itself. Some calculators instead add rate ÷ 12 every month and compound it, which gives a slightly higher figure than the Scheme’s method.

Why is my PF on ₹25,000 and not my full basic pay?

Contributions are limited to wages up to the ceiling (EPF Scheme para 18(3)) unless you and your employer jointly opt to contribute on higher wages (para 9(4)). If your payslip shows 12% of your full basic + DA, choose “Full wages” above. The pension share stays on wages up to ₹25,000 either way.

What is the interest rate for 2026-27?

Not declared yet. 8.25% was declared for 2025-26. The calculator assumes the rate you enter for every year, starting from 8.25%.

What else does my employer pay?

Insurance (EDLI) at 0.5% and administrative charges at 0.5% of wages, which EPFO’s own table works on wages up to ₹25,000. The minimum administrative charge is ₹500 a month for the whole establishment, not for each employee. Neither goes into your account.

How much pension will I get from the EPS?

This page does not estimate it. EPFO has an official pension calculator.
