Questions

What is an IFSC?

An alpha-numeric code that uniquely identifies a bank branch taking part in NEFT. RBI describes it as an 11-character code: the first four letters represent the bank, the fifth character is 0 (zero) and the last six represent the branch.

What is a MICR code?

The nine-digit sort code printed in the MICR band at the bottom of a cheque, after the six-digit cheque number. RBI’s guidelines say it is unique for any bank branch in the country: three digits for the city, three for the bank and three for the branch.
